Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and operate complete building control systems, including fire, security, and other low-voltage control subsystems (e.g., lighting, nurse call, data networks).
- Develop complex software programs, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure proper building control system operations.
- Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics as required.
- Develop and test software programs to meet project requirements.
- Coordinate and create drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
- Select, order, and track delivery of materials for assigned projects.
- Assist in loading and commissioning system and network-level controllers.
- Validate complete system functionality and resolve issues with subcontractors and other trades.
- Provide field change information for as-built drawings and software updates.
- Keep management and contractors informed of job progress and issues.
- Assist in site-specific training for owner/operators on building control systems.
- Participate in release meetings with the project field team.
- Perform value engineering to provide cost-effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
- Adhere to safety standards to ensure employee and subcontractor safety.
- Travel as required for the role.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and minimum 3 years of experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the construction or HVAC industry.
- Experience with control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems.
- Experience with JCI software programming.
- Demonstrated experience integrating low-voltage building subsystems using industry protocols (e.g., LON, BACnet).
- Ability to communicate technical knowledge to non-technical audiences.
- Advanced computer skills, particularly in computer-related drafting tools.
- Ability to travel regularly.
Responsibilities (HVAC Equipment Systems Application Engineer)
- Assist with pre- and post-sales activities for building systems and equipment project opportunities, including system configuration validation, HVAC equipment and controls selection, bidding, application, and pricing.
- Provide technical support, selections, and limited estimating support to Account Executives during the project design or proposal phase.
- Support detailed estimating projects and validate assumptions made during proposal development.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and scopes of work for assigned projects in conjunction with sales.
- Assist in preparing proposals, customer communication documents, and any required design work.
- Prepare customer proposal quote letters, including project takeoffs, specification reviews, and RFQ/RFI issuance.
- Manage project Profit & Loss (P&L) using Johnson Controls equipment order execution processes.
- Verify approval submittals and configuration acceptance prior to equipment fabrication.
- Evaluate contractual scope and coordinate changes due to client-issued bulletins, field directives, or scheduling changes.
- Prepare change order proposals with the sales team.
- Coordinate the factory equipment order process to ensure compliance with contract documents and site requirements.
- Generate technical content for purchase orders, select orders, and track delivery of materials and equipment.
- Communicate project progress, including financials, to relevant management team members.
- Review and process invoices for payment and address billing or collection issues.
- Conduct site visits to ensure delivery and receipt of critical equipment meet compliance standards.
- Maintain long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, and subcontractors.
- Attend key meetings related to project execution.
Requirements (HVAC Equipment Systems Application Engineer)
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio), Adobe Writer, and basic Windows operating system.
- Knowledge of thermodynamics.
- Preferred: HVAC equipment knowledge, proficiency with MS Office Suite and AutoCAD.
Pay
Hiring salary range: $76,000 - $100,000 (for Systems Engineer role) or $68,000 - $93,000 (for HVAC Equipment Systems Application Engineer role). Salary is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, location, and market alignment. This role includes a competitive bonus plan based on individual, group, and corporate performance.
