HVAC Controls Systems Engineer

What You Do

• Design, configure, and operate complete building control systems, including fire, security, and other low-voltage control sub-systems (e.g., lighting, nurse call, data networks) to meet project requirements.
• Develop complex software programs, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure proper building control system operations.
• Provide detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls field installation teams, and subcontractors.
• Accountable to field teams for quality, timeliness, and efficiency of designs.

Responsibilities

• Design and configure technically complex building control systems as defined by contract documents.
• Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics as required.
• Develop and test software programs necessary to operate the system per project requirements.
• Coordinate and create necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
• Select, order, and track the delivery of materials for assigned projects.
• Coordinate factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedules.
• Assist in loading and commissioning all system and network-level controllers.
• Validate complete system functionality and resolve issues with subcontractors and other trades.
• Provide field change information to the project team for as-built drawings and software updates.
• Keep management and contractors informed of job progress and issues.
• Assist in site-specific training for owner/operators on the total building control system.
• Participate in release meetings with the project field team.
• Perform value engineering to provide cost-effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
• May provide work directions to Systems Design Assistants.
• Adhere to safety standards with a focus on employee and subcontractor safety.
• Travel is required for this role.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 3 years' experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the construction or HVAC industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building sub-systems.
• Experience with Johnson Controls software programming.
• Demonstrated experience in the integration of low-voltage building sub-systems using industry protocols (e.g., LON, BACnet).
• Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience.
• Advanced computer skills, particularly with computer-related drafting tools.
• Ability to travel regularly.

Pay

Hiring salary range: $67,900 – $90,100. Salary is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. This role also offers a competitive bonus plan based on individual, group, and corporate performance.
