HVAC Controls Systems Engineer

As a member of the Johnson Controls team, you will design, configure, and operate complete building control systems with a focus on HVAC controls to meet project requirements. This role involves developing complex software programs, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure proper system operations while collaborating with field teams, customers, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

• Design and configure technically complex building control systems as defined by contract documents.
• Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics.
• Develop and test software programs to operate systems per project requirements.
• Coordinate the creation of drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
• Select, order, and track delivery of materials for assigned projects.
• Assist in loading and commissioning system and network-level controllers.
• Validate system functionality and troubleshoot issues with subcontractors and trades.
• Provide field change information for as-built drawings and software updates.
• Keep management and contractors informed of job progress and issues.
• Assist in site-specific training for owners/operators on building control systems.
• Participate in release meetings with the project field team.
• Perform value engineering to provide cost-effective solutions while maintaining customer satisfaction.
• Adhere to safety standards with a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of three years of experience, or an associate degree in a related technical field with five years of relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the HVAC industry and control theory.
• Experience with building automation systems and integration of low-voltage building subsystems using industry protocols (e.g., LON, BacNet).
• Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience.
• Advanced computer skills, including drafting tools.
• Minimum of five years of experience (or seven years with an associate degree in a related field).
• Willingness to travel to job sites outside the area as needed.
