HVAC Commissioning Technician

Key Responsibilities

  • Repairs, overhauls, maintains, and services industrial residential heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.
  • Troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and determines appropriate repairs.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
  • Repairs or replaces compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys.
  • Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
  • Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools.
  • Serves and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers. Repacks valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters, and cleans coils.
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, models, and/or verbal and written instructions.
  • Maintains refrigerate inventory and consumption logs.
  • Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing pertaining to particular trades or skills.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Descales tubing; cuts and threads pipe; makes pipe and low voltage connections.
  • Provides proper methods of storing and maintaining tools, equipment and supplies in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Maintains schedules and time lines.
  • Records and reports all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences, as well as the time and materials expended on work orders.
  • Tests pipe or tubing joints and connections for leaks, using pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution.
  • Teaches and instructs helpers on the installation of a HVAC system.

Minimum Skills/Requirements

  • 5 years of experience building commercial mechanical projects.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read, understand and work from drawings, specifications and schematics.
  • Understands written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Attendance, reliability, dependability and flexibility.
  • Ability to interact with multiple personality types while ensuring a positive outcome.
