HVAC Assistant Chief Engineer
About the role
The Assistant Chief Engineer will oversee the smooth operation and maintenance of a commercial building's HVAC systems, including chillers, cooling towers, and HVAC-Energy Management Systems. This role requires a combination of technical expertise and leadership experience, with a focus on maintaining a safe and efficient environment for customers.
Responsibilities
- Oversee overall site activities and/or projects, including personnel management.
- Set work performance standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Escalate significant issues to executive management within 24 hours of occurrence.
- Work efficiently to ensure effective time management and minimize completion time.
- Keep logs of errors as necessary.
- Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with customers, vendors, contractors, and team members to foster a collaborative and harmonious work environment.
- Address performance issues related to personnel, technology, and processes.
- Manage budgets and standards for the site.
- All work by external vendors must receive prior approval from the property manager.
- Attend all defined account status meetings.
- Regularly inspect all site aspects to ensure aesthetic appeal and upkeep.
- Manage inventory and equipment usage.
- Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance, mechanical, and electrical issues as they arise.
- Promptly address any potential hazards to comply with safety regulations.
- Train security personnel in the technical operations of fire alarms, building security, irrigation sprinklers, light outages, and other essential safety equipment.
- Conduct daily checks on cooling towers, chillers, pumps, compressors, and all mechanical equipment.
- Periodically inspect air handlers, exhaust fans, timers, etc.
- Manage inventory and equipment usage.
- Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance, mechanical, and electrical issues as they arise.
- Promptly address any potential hazards to comply with safety regulations.
- Train security personnel in the technical operations of fire alarms, building security, irrigation sprinklers, light outages, and other essential safety equipment.
- Conduct daily checks on cooling towers, chillers, pumps, compressors, and all mechanical equipment.
- Periodically inspect air handlers, exhaust fans, timers, etc.
- Create, prepare, edit, and approve reports on account status as requested or within defined timeframes.
- Write and issue disciplinary actions, in conjunction with HR, to address and correct employee behaviors and performance.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent credential.
- A college degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- EPA Universal Certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Availability to work 24/7, including on-call duties, weekend shifts, and responding to emergency calls/projects as needed.
- Strong command of English (reading and writing).
- Previous management/supervision experience combined with engineering/maintenance skills is essential.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent public relations skills, along with strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Knowledge of basic building maintenance and proper use of power tools is necessary.
- Physically capable of lifting over 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and performing tasks such as stretching, kneeling, bending, crawling, and climbing.

$80,000 - $81,000 annual salary
Schedule
Monday - Friday: Variable hours (Must be available on weekends and holidays; subject to meetings and events)
