Human Resources Student Assistant -Solano Campus
This position is open only to current Cal Poly Maritime Academy–Solano Campus students.
About the Role
Will perform reception duties for the administration building and support campus-wide mail distribution. This includes greeting and assisting visitors, answering phones, distributing department mail, posting outgoing mail, and generally assisting in various projects and tasks within HR. This position will also allow a student to gain knowledge and experience in Human Resources.

Cal Poly Maritime Academy, located in Vallejo, California, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast and a nationally recognized public maritime university on the Solano Campus of California Polytechnic State University. It prepares students for leadership roles in maritime operations, engineering, logistics, business, global supply chains, and national security. Through Cal Poly's Learn by Doing philosophy, students train hands-on in classrooms and labs and aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear.
Responsibilities
- Provide front desk reception services for Human Resources.
- Direct staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the appropriate HR team member.
- Answer phones, transfer calls, and check voicemail/reception email messages daily.
- Filing and/or shredding materials.
- Photocopying, sorting, and collating materials.
- Distributing outgoing and incoming mail from multiple shipping services to the appropriate department/personnel.
- Basic typing and data entry.
- Processing incoming/outgoing mail and faxes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Typing and keyboarding skills and the ability to use standard office equipment.
- Ability to use standard word processing and data collection computer programs, specifically Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Google Docs, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills.

- Personable and friendly demeanor.
Pay
Hourly rate: $16.90
Schedule
Part-time, up to 20 hours per week.
Satisfactory completion of a background check is required for employment. The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
