About the role

You will serve as a HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST (EMPLOYEE BENEFITS) in the USFF HR SERVICES BRANCH, EXECUTIVE SUPPORT OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities

  • Help You will be responsible for program administration, planning, developing, carrying out the full range of advisory services, and daily work in the functional areas of Employee Benefits.
  • Help Provide a full range of management advisory services on all day-to-day matters involving workers’ compensation and unemployment claims.
  • Help Review, analyze, and interpret injury compensation standards established by Congress and the Department of Labor.
  • Help Responsible for administrating all aspects of the Department of Navy’s Federal Compensation Act (FECA) program.

Requirements

  • Conditions of employment Must be a US Citizen.
  • Conditions of employment Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Conditions of employment Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Conditions of employment New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Conditions of employment Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
  • Conditions of employment Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Conditions of employment Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Conditions of employment You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Conditions of employment Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Conditions of employment This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • Conditions of employment You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

  • FOR THE GS-09 LEVEL: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • FOR THE GS-07 LEVEL: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
