About the role
The Human Resources Representative supports salaried and union employees on full-cycle recruiting, benefits administration, and employee and labor relations issues at our Indiana Harbor operation. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced work environment supporting a broad range of human resource activities.
Responsibilities
- Administer internal and external recruiting and hiring programs for salaried and bargaining unit workforce in assigned plant departments.
- Coordinate new hire orientation and onboarding.
- Collaborate in the development and delivery of various training programs.
- Maintain employee demographics, headcount, attrition, organizational charts, and critical vacancy lists.
- Assist in administering employee benefits including short-term/long-term disability, restricted work analyses as per the ADA, and FMLA.
- Administer and interpret the collective bargaining agreement in consultation with the Labor Relations department.
- Assist management in implementing company policies and procedures, investigate potential violations, and offer recommendations for resolution.
- Conduct workplace investigations and advise management on actions to be taken.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of human resources and/or labor relations work experience.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., EEO, ADA, FLSA, FMLA).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management systems.
- 2 years of working knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce, Workday, or comparable Human Resources Management system.
- Organized, detail-oriented, results-driven, with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously following initial direction and instruction.
- Self-starter displaying motivation, initiative, innovation, and enthusiasm.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of Human Resources experience in a large, manufacturing, unionized environment.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
