About the role

This is a remote position requiring support of our California restaurant operators. While remote, the individual should be well-versed in CA employment law or able to quickly learn. The HR Operations Manager aligns business objectives with HR support and partners with Operations, Finance, IT, and Marketing to deliver value-added service to hourly and management team members. This role performs mid to advanced-level HR work in areas such as employee hiring, employee relations, training, safety, staffing, compliance, payroll, diversity and inclusion, and personnel research. The position supports company initiatives nationwide and requires cross-functional collaboration to drive organizational success. The HR department currently consists of one person. Fluency in Spanish is required, and the individual must travel to the Bay Area 6 times a year for 1-2 weeks at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Understand Curry Up Now’s business strategy and goals, identify opportunities, and recommend new HR approaches, policies, and procedures to improve business objectives and productivity.
  • Use and interpret HR and business metrics to identify trends, problem-solve, and influence change.
  • Serve as a trusted coach for change management, team effectiveness, and leadership development.
  • Handle day-to-day HR operations, including employee relations, unemployment, workers’ compensation, and policy adherence.
  • Partner with restaurant management and the Executive Team on HR issues, including policy adherence and communications.
  • Respond to employee relations issues, conduct investigations, recommend corrective actions, and document outcomes.
  • Advise management on coaching, performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, and terminations for hourly and management staff.
  • Research local, state, and federal laws to ensure compliance and recommend policy or procedure changes.
  • Manage the workers’ compensation process, including inquiries, documentation, wage statements, and return-to-work administration.
  • Facilitate the interactive process for accommodation requests to ensure compliance.
  • Recruit store-level and management individuals.
  • Process payroll using Paylocity.
  • Collect, analyze, and distribute HR data and reports, including turnover, vacancy, field bonus, and management reports.
  • Conduct and document exit interviews for restaurant management separations and analyze trends.
  • Complete payroll and HRIS data entry duties (e.g., uploading documents, approving transfers/promotions) in a timely manner.
  • Conduct in-person and remote training sessions on topics such as diversity and inclusion and harassment prevention.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Minimum of 2 years of strategic partnership experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recruiting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or a Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HR disciplines, including compensation, organizational diagnosis, diversity, performance management, staffing, and federal/state employment laws.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems required.
  • Experience supporting a multi-unit operation in a remote capacity; multi-state experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with CA employment law and employee relations.
  • Must be available to work California hours (9 a.m.–6 p.m. PT).
