Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist serves as the organization's sole HR professional, managing all human resources functions. This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution across all HR disciplines, including recruitment, employee relations, compliance, performance management, payroll coordination, and employee retention.

Given the nature of services provided, candidates with experience in the nonprofit and/or social services sector and a demonstrated commitment to serving others are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all day-to-day HR operations and serve as the primary point of contact for all HR-related matters
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and documentation
  • Update and manage the employee handbook
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and hiring
  • Collaborate with leadership on workforce planning and staffing strategies
  • Oversee onboarding processes to ensure a smooth employee experience
  • Administer employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and disciplinary processes
  • Support and guide performance management processes, including evaluations and improvement plans
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and mission-aligned workplace culture
  • Oversee employee benefits programs and enrollment processes
  • Administer leave of absence programs, including FMLA/CFRA, ADA accommodations, and workers' compensation
  • Coordinate payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Review timekeeping records and maintain proper documentation

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible human resources experience required. Experience working in a nonprofit environment preferred. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred. Strong knowledge of California and federal employment laws including wage and hour laws. Experience managing multiple HR functions independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, HRIS systems, and payroll systems.
