The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a Human Resources Generalist in our Office of Human Resources.

The Human Resources Generalist supports the College’s employment, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, labor relations, civil service administration, and student employment functions. This position serves as the primary coordinator for employee onboarding and the primary processor of HRIS personnel transactions while providing professional and operational support across Human Resources functions. The HR Generalist ensures compliance with College policies, collective bargaining agreements, civil service regulations, and applicable employment laws while providing responsive and professional service to employees, supervisors, and the campus community.

This position works collaboratively with Human Resources staff to support efficient departmental operations, effective service delivery, and continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary coordinator for employee onboarding, ensuring completion of required employment documentation and facilitating a positive onboarding experience for new employees.
  • Processes personnel transactions within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), including new hires, employment changes, benefit-related transactions, and separations, while maintaining accurate employee records.
  • Coordinates student employment processes, including recruitment, hiring, and onboarding, in collaboration with the Assistant to the Office of Human Resources and campus partners.
  • Serves as a resource for student employment policies, procedures, and processes and provides guidance to student employees and supervisors.
  • Assists employees with benefits enrollment, changes, and general benefits-related questions while supporting annual open enrollment and employee benefits communications.
  • Supports leave and accommodation processes, including FMLA and ADA, by preparing documentation, maintaining confidential records, and tracking required deadlines.
  • Provides administrative support for employee and labor relations activities, including maintaining confidential records, preparing documentation, conducting research, and assisting with investigations and other related processes as assigned.
  • Assists with civil service administration by processing required employment documentation, monitoring employment actions for compliance, and coordinating required submissions.
  • Coordinates required employee compliance training, monitors completion, and assists with institutional compliance reporting and recordkeeping.
  • Maintains accurate Human Resources records and prepares reports related to employment, compliance, training, and workforce data.
  • Provides guidance to employees and supervisors regarding Human Resources policies, procedures, forms, and employment-related processes, referring complex matters as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources staff to support departmental operations, cross-functional initiatives, and continuous process improvement while providing assistance during peak operational periods.
  • Provides responsive and professional customer service to employees, supervisors, student employees, and campus partners.
  • Performs other duties related to this job description and assigned by the Associate Director of Human Resources for Benefits & Labor Relations.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm; 35 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in human resources, or a closely related administrative function involving employee records, onboarding, benefits, or compliance processes
  • Proficiency in office productivity software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets) and the ability to learn HR Information Systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all work
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a regulated, civil service, or unionized environment (e.g., higher education, government, or healthcare) preferred
  • Knowledge of benefits administration, employment law, civil service systems, and higher education practices
  • Experience using HR Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and employment compliance requirements

Additional Information

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
