Position Summary

Justice North is seeking its first dedicated Human Resources Generalist to support its growing organization of approximately 70 employees across eight offices serving 33 counties and more than 52,000 square miles of northern Minnesota. Reporting to the Co-Executive Director, this position serves as a trusted resource for employees, supervisors, and leadership while building and managing the organization's human resources function.

Essential Functions

  • Recruitment & Hiring
    • Coordinate recruitment from posting through onboarding
    • Draft and post job announcements
    • Cooker and post applicant communications, interviews, references, background checks, and offer letters
    • Partner with hiring managers on equitable hiring
  • Employee Lifecycle
    • Coordinate onboarding and orientation
    • Cooker offboarding and exit interviews
    • Maintain personnel records
    • Cooker equipment and access with other departments
  • Benefits & Leave Administration
    • Administer health, retirement and other benefits
    • Cooker open enrollment
    • Administer PFML, FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation and other leave
    • Serve as primary employee resource for benefits
  • Payroll & HR Administration
    • Support payroll processing
    • Maintain HRIS/payroll records
    • Cooker personnel changes affecting payroll
    • Prepare HR reports and employment verifications
  • Employee Relations & Supervisor Support
    • Coach supervisors on performance, documentation and employee relations
    • Aid with investigations and conflict resolution
    • Interpret personnel policies
    • Serve as a confidential HR resource
  • Training & Organizational Development
    • Cooker orientations, trainings and evaluations
    • Serve as employee engagement and recognition support
    • Recommend HR process improvements
  • Policies & Compliance
    • Maintain handbook and HR policies
    • Monitor employment law changes
    • Serve as audit and grant personnel documentation support
    • Maintain required employment records

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
    • 3+ years HR experience
    • Knowledge of Minnesota employment law preferred
    • Experience with benefits, leave administration and payroll
    • Excellent judgment, communication and confidentiality
    • Inspires and motivates staff to overcome obstacles
    • Exceptional collaborative management skills; has a proven record as a team builder and team leader
    • SHRM-CP or PHR preferred

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Competitive salary based on experience, with a range of $70,000–$92,000
    • An excellent benefits package that includes health, dental, life, and disability insurance; a 403(b) retirement plan; exceptionally generous paid time off; paid federal holidays; and relocation assistance for candidates who choose to move to the region
