About The Role
The Human Resources Generalist at VMSC plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the HR department. This position is responsible for delivering a broad spectrum of HR services including payroll processing, benefits administration, recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, HR compliance, and HRIS management. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted resource for both employees and managers, ensuring HR processes are efficient, compliant, and aligned with the organization’s mission to provide outstanding emergency medical services. The role requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional who can handle multiple responsibilities while fostering a positive work environment. The Human Resources Generalist will work closely with leadership and staff to promote employee engagement, uphold HR policies, and support organizational growth. Qualifications
- Educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. However, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered based on candidate qualifications.
- Candidates should have at least three (3) years of progressively responsible HR experience, including hands-on payroll processing and benefits administration.
- Experience working within healthcare, EMS, public safety, or other 24/7 operational environments is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with union environments is a plus.
- The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and reporting tools is required, along with a solid understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws.
Responsibilities
- Payroll & Compensation: Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees, audit employee time records for accuracy, manage payroll changes including new hires, promotions, and separations, and reconcile payroll reports to resolve discrepancies.
- Benefits Administration: Oversee medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement programs, coordinate enrollment and benefit changes, manage leave processes, and serve as the primary contact for employee benefit inquiries.
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Coordinate recruitment efforts, conduct interviews, facilitate onboarding processes, and ensure pre-employment requirements are completed efficiently.
- Employee Relations: Address employee questions regarding HR policies, assist with investigations and disciplinary procedures, support engagement initiatives, and maintain confidential employee records.
- HR Compliance & Administration: Ensure adherence to employment laws, assist with leave administration, unemployment claims, and workers’ compensation documentation, prepare HR reports, and support audits and accreditation activities.
- HR Systems: Maintain and optimize HRIS data, assist with system testing and reporting, and support the implementation of new HR technologies.
- Other Duties: Participate in special HR projects, cross-train within the team, and perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
