About the Role

The Human Resources Coordinator provides administrative support to the HR function including data entry, file management, compliance, I-9 compliance, FMLA tracking, job postings, recruiting, new hire orientation, drug and alcohol testing program, and benefit support. The role advocates for employees and supports company initiatives such as wellness, engagement, and employee recognition while maintaining Matson’s objectives, best practices, values, and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of all correspondence, personnel files, medical documentation, and HR-related matters.
  • Provide support to employees regarding benefits, 401K plans, and other programs.
  • Manage full life cycle recruitment including interviews, background screening, and onboarding.
  • Ensure employee files, medical files, I-9s, and required state and federal postings comply with Federal, State, and Matson guidelines.
  • Participate on the community events committee and help plan events or projects.
  • Act as an advocate for Matson in the community.
  • Perform data entry tasks.
  • Coordinate pre-employment drug testing for new hires, including reconciliation of invoices.
  • Partner with the SQES manager regarding DOT drug and alcohol compliance and manage the random drug and alcohol testing process for Anchorage.
  • Support terminal locations under the Alaska division including Anchorage, Dutch Harbor, Kodiak, Tacoma, and Renton.
  • Display professionalism when dealing with employees, applicants, customers, and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of Matson’s policies, systems, and processes.
  • Assist in administering learning programs and training initiatives.
  • Test and utilize AI for HR-related tasks, projects, or process improvement.
  • Meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of experience in Human Resources.
  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate processes and procedures.
  • Strong working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local labor laws.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience implementing process improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with Workday.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for at least two hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs. on occasion.
  • Ability to stand, bend, walk, kneel, reach, push, pull, talk, and hear.
