Human Resources Business Partner (Employee Relations)
Brief Description
The HR Business Partner / Employee Relations serves as a strategic thought partner to business and operations leaders within a regulated financial services environment, specifically mortgage lending and servicing. This role combines strong employee relations expertise with proactive business partnership, helping leaders make sound people decisions that support operational effectiveness, risk management, and business goals.
What You Will Do
Strategic Business Partnership:
- Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to managers and leaders across mortgage origination, servicing, and corporate functions.
- Support leaders in making people-related decisions aligned with business strategy, operational goals, and risk considerations.
- Advise on workforce planning, role design, organizational changes, and team effectiveness.
- Partner with leaders to anticipate people risks, talent needs, and operational challenges.
- Translate business objectives into practical people strategies that support execution.
Employee Relations & Risk Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee relations concerns, questions, and complaints.
- Lead or support workplace investigations involving conduct, performance, policy violations, or regulatory-related employee issues.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management on sensitive matters with potential regulatory or reputational impact.
- Provide guidance on corrective actions, performance management, and employee accountability.
- Ensure employee relations matters are handled consistently, confidentially, and with well-documented outcomes.
Manager Coaching & Decision Support:
- Coach managers on effective leadership, communication, documentation, and issue resolution.
- Support leaders through complex and high-stakes employee situations, including performance issues, conflict, and change management.
- Help managers navigate difficult conversations and decisions with confidence and consistency.
Policy, Compliance & Governance:
- Ensure HR practices align with employment laws and industry regulations applicable to mortgage lending and servicing.
- Support internal audits, regulatory exams, and reviews related to employee conduct and HR documentation.
- Participate in the development, interpretation, and communication of HR policies and procedures.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (required)
- 5–8+ years of progressive HR experience with strong emphasis on business partnering and employee relations
- Experience supporting leaders in a regulated industry; financial services or mortgage industry experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically while executing effectively
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Proven experience handling investigations and sensitive employee matters
- Strong communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills
- Able to influence, challenge, and support leaders at multiple levels
- High level of judgment, discretion, and emotional intelligence
