This position supports, reviews, and processes personnel transactions for citywide departments within the Human Resources Department Records Team (TRL-Transactions/Records/Leave).
Responsibilities
- Maintain records for all city employees.
- Review off-cycle paycheck requests for separating employees.
- Answer phone and email inquiries; assist occasional walk-in customers.
- Utilize HRIS system to research and resolve inquiries.
- Perform arithmetic functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Audit and track I-9 documentation for compliance.
- Read, interpret, and explain citywide policies.
- Review written material for completeness and accuracy to ensure adherence to human resources guidelines.

- Ability to communicate with customers, clients, or the public in person or by telephone.
- Compose written documents with clearly organized thoughts and proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Work under pressure to meet tight time schedules and deadlines, and handle significant problems and tasks which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly.
- Comprehend and make inferences from material written in the English language.
- Exercise sound judgment and establish priorities for own workload.
- Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation in an on-the-job training setting.
- Maintain confidentiality of personnel information.
- Move objects weighing up to 50 pounds short and long distances.
- Remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
- Two years of college majoring in public or human resources administration, industrial relations, psychology, or a related field.
- One year of experience as a human resources or administrative clerk.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with personnel transactions process.
- Experience with HR administrative responsibilities including using human resources management systems.
- Experience with proofing, auditing, and analysis.
- Some experience with payroll and leave.
- Some experience interpreting and explaining HR policies and protocol.
- Some experience maintaining a records system.
Pay
Pay Range: $23.06 to $37.58 per hour.
Hiring Range: $23.06 to $35.78 per hour.
Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
- Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
- Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
- Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
- When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.
