HUC/NA - Acute Care Oncology

Responsibilities

The Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant (HUC NA) has a dual focus, combining the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) and Nursing Assistant (NA) roles. They serve as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team.

• Supports patients with activities of daily living and performs patient care skills as delegated by the licensed nurse within the Ohio Board of Nursing Scope of Practice.
• Collaborates with unit leadership in coordinating the day-to-day activities of the patient care unit, including processing patient records and ongoing communication with nursing staff, physicians, and interdepartmental personnel.
• Serves as a resource for physicians and other members of the health care team for the electronic medical record.
• Maintains and demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability of the delegated tasks.
• Supports department operational needs and performs other duties as assigned.

The HUC NA reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Requirements

Applicants Must Have:

• Successful completion of KH Health Coordinator training upon hire into role.
• Successful completion of KH Nursing Assistant Orientation upon hire into role.
• Certification in CPR/BLS.
• One of the following:
  • Six months experience as a nursing assistant in a hospital or a long-term care facility.
  • Completion of Nursing Assistant course in the last six months.
  • Nursing student or listed as pre-nursing as shown on transcripts.
  • Current employee with Kettering Health.

• Reading, writing, and basic math skills.

• Appropriate telephone etiquette.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
• Customer service skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and function in a high-stress environment.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Ability to comprehend and complete delegated tasks.
