Full-time night shift position at Kettering Health Dayton.

About the Role

The Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant (HUC NA) combines the roles of Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) and Nursing Assistant (NA). As a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team, the HUC NA supports patients with activities of daily living and performs patient care skills as delegated by the licensed nurse within the Ohio Board of Nursing Scope of Practice. The HUC NA also coordinates day-to-day activities of the patient care unit, processes patient records, and facilitates communication among nursing staff, physicians, and interdepartmental personnel. Additionally, the HUC NA serves as a resource for the electronic medical record and supports department operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support patients with activities of daily living.
  • Perform patient care skills as delegated by the licensed nurse.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities of the patient care unit.
  • Process patient records and facilitate communication among healthcare team members.
  • Serve as a resource for the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain and demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability of delegated tasks.
  • Support department operational needs and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Kettering Health Health Coordinator training upon hire.
  • Successful completion of Kettering Health Nursing Assistant Orientation upon hire.
  • Certification in CPR/BLS.
  • One of the following:
    • Six months experience as a nursing assistant in a hospital or long-term care facility.
    • Completion of a Nursing Assistant course in the last six months.
    • Currently enrolled as a nursing student or listed as pre-nursing on transcripts.
    • Current Kettering Health employee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Availability to work every 3rd weekend, 2 Mondays, and 2 Fridays in a 6-week period.
  • For students: ability to work 3 days during weekdays.
  • Strong reading, writing, and basic math skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Appropriate telephone etiquette.
  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and function in a high-stress environment.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and complete delegated tasks.
