Position Summary
Provide clerical and secretarial services to the nursing unit. Perform clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer, and death. Ensure STAT orders are brought to the attention of licensed nursing personnel. Transcribe physician’s orders accurately and in a timely manner and notify consults as ordered. Requisition supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepare related forms. Keep unit stock and equipment inventories at appropriate levels. Answer telephone and intercoms; relay and document messages. Help ensure follow-up to patient requests is timely. Assist physicians in obtaining reports from lab, radiology, etc. Schedule patient tests, diagnostic procedures, and doctor’s appointments for patients as requested. Organize patient charts in proper sequence. Label and replenish all necessary forms. Follow established infection control policies including standard precautions, transmission-based isolation precautions, OSHA standards, safety measures, and proper body mechanics in performance of job. Obtain patient records from other facilities. Manage patient flow via flowboard if applicable. Ensure appropriate discharge disposition in electronic medical records. Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards. Complete required education assignments annually. Work toward achieving goals and objectives, and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill, and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.

Prior Healthcare Experience Preferred.
