About the Role
Performs general clerical and receptionist duties including medical record maintenance, order processing, typing, and/or word processing, and materials management functions on the nursing unit. Assists visitors, nursing staff, and members of the health care team. Assists in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Performs Nursing Assistant duties under the direction of the Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, or Management Associate.
Responsibilities
- Maintain medical records
- Process orders
- Perform typing and word processing tasks
- Manage materials and supplies on the nursing unit
- Assist visitors, nursing staff, and healthcare team members
- Maintain a clean and safe environment
- Perform Nursing Assistant duties under supervision
- Use Hospital computer systems for ADT order entry, requisitions, lab inquiries, and other processes
- Manage supplies, equipment ordering, and inventory control
Skills
- Ability to use multi-line telephone
- Professional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Basic computer knowledge and knowledge of medical terminology
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Flexible and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to interact and communicate courteously in stressful situations
- Knowledge of patient medical records and clinical documents
- Skillful in the use of Hospital computer systems and related software/hardware
- Knowledge of clinical procedures and operations
- Clerical, word processing, and office skills
- Ability to read and comprehend English to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required
- Current CPR training required
- Completion of the UMC HUC training program within 6 months of being in the position
- Completion of one of the following:
- Formal Nursing Assistant training program
- Medical Assistant or equivalent training program
- Fundamental Nursing Registered Nurse training program
- Graduate of an international Registered Nurse equivalent program
Qualifications
Nursing Assistant or Health Unit Coordinator experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
