About the Role

Performs general clerical and receptionist duties including medical record maintenance, order processing, typing, and/or word processing, and materials management functions on the nursing unit. Assists visitors, nursing staff, and members of the health care team. Assists in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Performs Nursing Assistant duties under the direction of the Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, or Management Associate.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain medical records
  • Process orders
  • Perform typing and word processing tasks
  • Manage materials and supplies on the nursing unit
  • Assist visitors, nursing staff, and healthcare team members
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Perform Nursing Assistant duties under supervision
  • Use Hospital computer systems for ADT order entry, requisitions, lab inquiries, and other processes
  • Manage supplies, equipment ordering, and inventory control

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Basic computer knowledge and knowledge of medical terminology
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interact and communicate courteously in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of patient medical records and clinical documents
  • Skillful in the use of Hospital computer systems and related software/hardware
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures and operations
  • Clerical, word processing, and office skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend English to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required
  • Current CPR training required
  • Completion of the UMC HUC training program within 6 months of being in the position
  • Completion of one of the following:
    • Formal Nursing Assistant training program
    • Medical Assistant or equivalent training program
    • Fundamental Nursing Registered Nurse training program
    • Graduate of an international Registered Nurse equivalent program

Qualifications

Nursing Assistant or Health Unit Coordinator experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
