HSE Supervisor - Fruita, CO

About the Role

The HSE Supervisor will oversee the implementation of and adherence to Company HSE requirements and operational expectations in partnership with other HSE professionals and Operations. Responsibilities include managing HSE-related activities for designated operational area(s) and ensuring work activities comply with Company policies, standards, processes, and relevant regulatory requirements. The HSE Supervisor leads a team of HSE Advisors while supporting Operations and other functional groups.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with HSE leadership and oversee the HSE team to ensure a consistent, effective approach to HSE responsibilities while adhering to current best practices.
• Promote a risk-based approach (e.g., field-based hazard identification and risk assessments) to HSE management using Company policies, standards, and processes for all operational activities.
• Plan, participate, train others, and complete HSE audits/reviews of drilling operations in assigned areas to ensure compliance with HSE requirements, including safety and environmental assessments, inspections of records, equipment, and facilities.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and training on Company safety policies and reinforce an incident-free safety culture.
• Develop, implement, train others, and communicate Company safety and environmental policies and procedures across field operations.
• Verify and ensure compliance with all HSE-related training, including internal and external training identified by audit findings, and support facilitation of various trainings, hazard awareness, and safety coaching during field operations.
• Ensure compliance with reporting systems for collecting, storing, analyzing, tracking, and reporting HSE performance data (e.g., incident reports, audit actions, and HSE metrics) and prepare statistical information for internal and external meetings.
• Lead and participate in risk management activities, including work planning, hazard identification, risk assessment, and implementation of risk controls.
• Provide expertise and mentorship in incident investigation and reviews to identify causal factors, root causes, and corrective/preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
• Proactively identify incident trends and recommend improvement goals and strategies based on statistical analysis.
• Supervise case management, including conducting interviews, follow-ups, and ensuring compliance with third-party medical recommendations to minimize recordable incident exposure while partnering with the internal claims department.
• Perform and assume other duties as required by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

• Expert-level knowledge in emergency response and first aid, including maintaining "train the trainer" status.
• Professional communication of regulations, risk management, and risk assessment skills while training others.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in MS Office and the ability to analyze and present statistical information to internal and external audiences.
• Extensive expertise in relevant government laws, regulations, and reporting procedures (e.g., OSHA, DOT, API) with a high aptitude for communicating these requirements.
• Expert-level knowledge of rig equipment, maintenance systems, processes, and implementation, with the ability to train others.
• Mentor, lead, and train others on comprehensive incident investigations, root cause analysis, and effective communication of findings.
• Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate difficult conversations proactively.
• Ability to work at heights (e.g., climbing ladders or stairs up to 142 feet) while maintaining 100% tie-off with required PPE.
• Spatial orientation and awareness to safely navigate work environments with moving objects.
• Work in remote locations and heavy industrial settings, including exposure to loud equipment and limited access to emergency services.
• Adherence to the Company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy, including performing on-site employee collections and Fit for Duty evaluations, and training others.
• Expert knowledge of the Corrective Work Order (CWO) process and ability to coach and train jobsite managers and others.
• Train field employees and HSE Advisors in annual compliance requirements (e.g., forklift, manlift, CPR, first aid) and share best practices.
• Advanced knowledge of loose lifting gear and inspection processes, with the capability to lead annual inspections.
• Subject Matter Expert in confined space entry requirements and company guidelines, with the ability to train others.
• Subject Matter Expert in all Permit to Work (PTW) components, including hazard identification, mitigation, and job planning, preparation, and closure, with responsibility to train others.
• Complete all additional assigned training courses, certifications, and related work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Five years of experience in a field-based HSE role, with at least two years in the drilling industry.
• Strong understanding of drilling processes, equipment, and systems.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to meet Company’s Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Supervisory experience of four or more personnel.
• Two years of environmental management experience.
• OHST, CSHO, or other recognized HSE-related certification.

Work Environment

This position requires working in both office locations and outdoors in all weather conditions, including precipitation, extreme temperatures, high wind, and turbulent conditions. The HSE Supervisor will be regularly exposed to local drilling operation environments and may perform occasional manual labor. Emphasis on safety for self and others is critical, including working closely with others under time-sensitive deadlines and potential emergency response situations. The role may require extended schedules, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

The target pay range for this salaried role is $103,200.00 to $121,400.00 annually.
