Job Summary
The HSE (Safety) Specialist is responsible for conducting safety inspections, observations, investigations, safety training, and regulatory compliance for OSHA, DOT, and EPA. The Safety Specialist anticipates and predicts hazards, evaluates and assesses potential risks, and provides advice and counseling on compliance with safety, health, and environmental laws, codes, regulations, and standards. They assist in investigating safety-related incidents and conduct or facilitate safety training programs. The Safety Specialist ensures compliance with safety protocols and recommends safe work processes.
Qualifications
- Experience in civil construction
- Must be fluent in Spanish and English
- Associate degree or equivalent related work experience of 4 years
- Knowledge of excavation and trenching experience
- Knowledge of safe work practices with reference to OSHA standards
- Preferred: OSHA Outreach Training Instructor (Construction)
- Current certifications or in pursuit of any of the following certifications: Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP)
- Knowledge in accident investigation following root cause analysis principles
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. It involves extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Work may require exposure to inclement weather conditions such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The position requires physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity, precise hand-eye coordination, and color identification are necessary. The role demands flexibility and adaptability to changing environments.
