About the role

The HSE Director reports to the Director of Operations and leads company-wide safety strategies, creates injury prevention rules, and ensures project sites follow local and national laws like OSHA standards. Serves as an advocate for the company’s safety program to ensure alignment with project site requirements. You will function as a role model alongside craftsmen on the job site and work in an industrial facility or construction jobsite setting.

Responsibilities

• Implement and oversee the company safety program, including the development of site safety policies and procedures
• Implement and maintain company policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations
• Serve as the main contact for government rules, environmental checks, and client safety audits
• Oversee risk assessments, safety training, and incident investigations to minimize hazards
• Lead serious accident or near-miss investigations to find root causes and fix system gaps
• Monitor all construction activities to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction industry standards, company’s safety program, and job-specific safety programs and requirements
• Stay constantly aware of conditions and work practices, empowered to stop all unsafe work
• Be proactive in all areas of safety and recognize potential safety issues and hazards

Requirements

• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial or equivalent degree/work experience
• Minimum 5+ years’ HSE and heavy industrial construction experience
• Certification as a safety professional desired
• OSHA 30 certification
• Current HAZWOPER and LOTO training
• Knowledgeable in confined space work and permitting
• Ability to work in a highly specific work environment (deep excavations or on elevated structures) and around related equipment
• Willing to travel within the United States

Physical Demands

• Must be able to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs., but may occasionally push/pull, lift, or carry up to 100 lbs.

• Prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing/pulling, or standing and lifting
• Walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.
• Work in confined spaces
• Exposure to adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)

Work Environment

The job will primarily be on or around construction/turnaround sites in petrochemical operational units and include possible hazardous environments such as confined spaces and working at heights. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, irritants, and smoke may occur. Special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be necessary to control some hazardous environments. Additional forms of PPE may be required depending on the particular project. Safety requirements must be verified and meet standards set forth by client permits, policies, and procedures, and be performed in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws or ordinances before work activities can begin.
