HS Teacher Assistant (Ridge-way Learning)

About the role

The Teacher Assistant will assist classroom teachers and the nutrition staff, relieve teachers during absences, and remain a flexible and organized team player.

Responsibilities

  • Aid classroom teachers in improving education quality
  • Prepare and serve high-quality meals for students
  • Relieve teachers during periods of absence and breaks
  • Assume responsibilities as the primary caregiver for one group of children, including those with special needs
  • Act as a role model and mentor to clients and staff
  • Communicate with nutrition, health/disability, and education staff to address special diet needs
  • Implement daily education procedures, ensure children are engaged in activities suited to their needs, and provide ample activity options
  • Assist in meal preparation and serving, maintain appropriate attendance records, and conduct regular home visits and parent-teacher conferences
  • Contribute to ongoing child evaluations
  • Maintain appropriate kitchen sanitation and adhere to Health Department and Porter-Leath requirements
  • Conduct regular home visits and parent-teacher conferences with families
  • Assist in maintaining accurate attendance records and meal counts

Qualifications

  • HSD or GED with a Certified Development Associate (CDA) Certification with Infant Toddler Endorsement
  • Relevant work experience with infants, toddlers, and/or preschoolers
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred
  • Experience working in a non-profit preferred

Requirements

  • Perform according to standards set by Head Start, NAEYC, CACFP, USDA, Tennessee Day Care Licensing, and Porter-Leath
  • Work cooperatively with other staff to create a positive, enriching, and safe environment
  • Assist in delivering appropriate health, nutrition, disability, education, and family support services
  • Ensure compliance with USDA recommended daily dietary allowances and family-style dining requirements
  • Maintain appropriate attendance records, meal counts, etc., necessary to produce reports
  • Conduct regular home visits and parent-teacher conferences with families
  • Contribute to team effort by performing other duties as assigned
