HS Research Assistant

About the role

The University of New Mexico's Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking On‑Call Research Assistants to support medical research studies conducted within the emergency care setting. This part‑time, on‑call position averages no more than 10 hours per week, with work hours determined by study enrollment needs. Shifts may include evenings, nights, and weekends. Under the direction of a Research Manager or Research Coordinator, the Research Assistant will support multiple aspects of human subjects research. Responsibilities include identifying and screening potential study participants, interacting with patients and families, obtaining and documenting informed consent, collecting research data through patient interaction and electronic medical records, conducting follow‑up communications, and assisting with study coordination activities. The position also involves handling biological specimens and supporting basic laboratory processing in accordance with approved protocols. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and sound critical thinking abilities. Research Assistants are expected to work collaboratively as part
