Primary Purpose

The HS Math Curriculum and Instruction Specialist (CIS) writes and develops network-wide curriculum resources (e.g., unit plans, assessments, and tools for instructional management) at each grade level (9-12) that align to Uplift's Scope and Sequence. The CIS ensures the network materials are culturally relevant, of high-quality, rigorous, and in alignment with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme Standards and Practices, and the State of Texas Bluebonnet Math curriculum. The CIS provides training, coaching, and receives input from campus leaders and teachers to improve the fidelity of implementation of the network's curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Curate materials to write curriculum aligned to International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and Texas Bluebonnet Math
  • Manage content visions and systems for supports for network-wide campus leaders to support teacher capacity building
  • Provide content-specific professional development to school leaders (e.g., whole group, small group, one-on-one coaching) to further develop their instructional eye
  • Analyze scholar assessment data (qualitative and quantitative) and share with school leaders to determine how to support in developing teachers, refining units of study, or defining targeted intervention support
  • Monitor implementation of the curriculum through cycles of campus observation and feedback (e.g., walkthroughs, school reviews)
  • Get input on curriculum from leaders, teachers, and curriculum and instruction peers to ensure the curriculum is in alignment with the IB Programme Standards and Practices as well as vertically aligned to content in different grade bands
  • Provide coordinated support after strategy for addressing the needs of schools that require support to rapidly accelerate student outcomes
  • Develops, updates, and monitors curriculum courses on Schoology for grade levels/content areas supported
  • Provides curricular leadership to school leaders by utilizing research-based teaching and learning practices
  • Assists campus leaders in designing, preparing, and facilitating content-specific professional development around instructional planning and IB Programme Standards and Practices
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university required; Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with curriculum writing and inquiry-based instruction
  • Minimum three years of Math classroom teaching experience in a high school setting
  • Formal school leadership experience preferred but not required (e.g., Assistant Principal, Dean of Instruction)
  • Leadership experiences providing teachers and leaders with content-specific professional development or coaching
  • Demonstrated and measurable student achievement in the content area on state, nationally norm-referenced tests, or college readiness exams (STAAR/EOC, ACT, SAT, IB, AP, etc.)
  • Ability to design high-quality unit and lesson plans and assessments aligned to an objective
  • Understanding of IB instructional and planning practices

Skills

  • Communication Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and apply common sense to understand and to carry out instructions in written or oral form. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, students, and parents required.
  • Bilingual Skills: Spanish fluency is a plus.
  • Computer Skills: Competent in Microsoft Office and Google applications and ability to learn and use computer software as necessary. Ability to use basic office equipment.

Pay

Starting Salary: $72,500
