As a High School English Teacher, you will create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment that fosters student learning and personal growth. You will develop lesson plans aligned with established guidelines, build rapport with students, staff, and parents, and motivate students to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge for their educational foundation.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement a program of instruction adhering to the company’s philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in adopted courses of study.
• Create purposeful and effective lesson plans that maximize time on task and provide real-world, application-based learning opportunities.
• Review student records to understand each student’s abilities and needs; maintain accurate and complete student records.
• Maximize educational achievement for each student using a variety of instructional modalities and differentiated instruction.
• Conduct frequent diagnostic assessments of student learning, provide appropriate activities to address needs, and generate progress reports.
• Refer students with suspected learning problems to appropriate support personnel.
• Assign lessons, correct student work, and review oral presentations.
• Coordinate class field trips as required and prepare students for state-required achievement assessments.
• Stay current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory; share this knowledge to improve the school’s curriculum.
• Assist in the ongoing curriculum revision process, including the revision of written courses of study.
• Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Become familiar with supplemental services beneficial to students as extensions of regular classroom activities.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Maintain positive rapport with students, demonstrating patience and nurturing to support their growth.
• Ensure the classroom is clean, safe, and includes student-generated work on display as appropriate.
• Implement relevant policies governing student conduct and develop reasonable rules for classroom and playground behavior.
• Maintain order in the classroom fairly and consistently.
• Develop lesson plans consistent with established guidelines and goals, including individual and group learning activities.
• Prepare for assigned classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
• Participate in curriculum planning during designated meetings and incorporate diagnostic information from student IEPs.
• Take necessary precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials, and facilities needed for instruction.
• Strive to establish cooperative relations and communicate effectively with parents/guardians when appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and participate in parent communication activities.
• Participate in extracurricular activities to foster a positive school culture and support students and staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
• Possession of valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
• Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Command of grade/subject-specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
• Understanding of and commitment to company values.
• Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
• Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
• Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment includes usual school working conditions. The environment may be noisy during high student traffic.
