Description
The Academic Counselor supports the Road to College program by promoting a college-going culture and a college readiness curriculum. They work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and the community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program.
- Guide individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.
- Help students build and strengthen their college-ready resumes through counseling in course selection and extracurricular activities.
- Implement and facilitate counseling programming that addresses identified needs and priorities.
- Compile and analyze data to identify trends in student growth and areas of opportunity.
- Aid in the scheduling process to ensure students are in the correct courses and follow a graduation plan.
- Lead the communication process for course options, 4-year graduation plans, and track progress.
- Collaborate with campus leaders and registrars to ensure grading practices, academic reporting, and historical records are accurate.
- Support parent engagement initiatives by participating in workshops and the enrollment process.
- Ensure compliance with academic policies and collaborate with testing coordinators and teachers to facilitate standardized test registration and testing.
- Lead the implementation of dual credit, online enrichment, and credit recovery opportunities.
- Identify and implement necessary programs, products, and resources to improve the academic counseling program.
- Create and support academic intervention plans for students at risk of failing.
- Provide counseling to students with concerns, focusing on those identified as failing or at risk.
- Maintain a positive attitude towards campus culture and the RTC program.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, with a Master's degree preferred.
- Previous 9th-12th grade educational experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated successful work with teens and parents.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to inquiries and complaints from parents, students, and administration.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and apply them to practical situations.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).
- Ability to use basic office equipment.
- Safety awareness and compliance with safety rules and procedures.
- Physical stamina to sit and use wrists, hands, and fingers for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods.
- Work in a moderate noise environment with occasional interruptions.
- Ability to recognize and address unsafe actions and situations.
- Ability to warn others of unsafe situations and react to emergencies.
- Ability to report hazardous or unsafe practices to those in a position to correct them.

$59,000
