HR Specialist - Leave of Absence, Workers Comp
The Town of Brookline is seeking a Human Resources Specialist with expertise in workers' compensation, employee benefits, and leave management. This role involves managing Workers' Compensation claims, coordinating leave of absence programs, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws.
Key Responsibilities
Manage Workers' Compensation claims, Police and Fire injury on duty (111F) cases, and other leave of absence programs. Act as the main contact for employees, medical providers, third-party administrators, and legal professionals to ensure smooth case progress.
Facilitate communication with employees on leave, providing ongoing support and guidance regarding their medical status, accommodations, and return-to-work plans.
Ensure adherence to FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation laws, and other regulations. Oversee leave of absence documentation, approvals, and communication with both employees and supervisors.
Evaluate workplace injuries concerning OSHA regulations, recommend safety improvements, and assist in training employees and managers on safety and emergency procedures.
Serve as the primary contact for third-party administrators, outside counsel, and medical professionals, ensuring smooth coordination and timely communication throughout the process.
Maintain accurate and confidential records for all workers' compensation and leave cases. Prepare reports and assist with accidental disability retirement documentation.
Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in workers' compensation administration, insurance claims management, leave and absence management, or a related field. Experience in employee relations and case management is highly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of Workers' Compensation, FMLA, ADA, 111F, and OSHA regulations.
Strong customer service and communication skills to effectively interact with employees, managers, vendors, and medical providers.
Hightly organized with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other office software.

Capable of working independently, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills to address case management challenges.
