About the Role
The Human Resources and Payroll Coordinator manages the day-to-day workflows of HR and payroll functions, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership while overseeing recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, policy development, training, and payroll processing.
Responsibilities
- Creates job postings, manages candidate screening and interviews, completes pre-employment screenings, and onboards new hires.
- Collaborates with and coaches leaders on employee relations in accordance with laws, policies, and procedures.
- Prepares bi-weekly payroll, including gathering and verifying time sheets, data entry, editing, and employee payroll maintenance.
- Enters, manages, and ensures data integrity within the employee information system.
- Prepares bi-weekly payroll-related payables and reports (external), including retirement contributions, employee deductions, garnishments, and federal and state tax payments.
- Prepares and timely files year-end W-2s, reconciling to quarterly reports.
- Prepares quarterly payroll-related reports for the IRS, State Tax Commission, and Department of Workforce Services.
- Administers and coordinates employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, and disability insurance.
- Evaluates benefits programs and costs annually to make recommendations for changes.
- Keeps employees educated and informed on benefits plans.
- Facilitates training for employees and supervisors on policy, procedures, and programs.
- Administers employee performance evaluation and development programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least two years of previous experience in employee relations, recruiting, and payroll functions.
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus additional technical training in a related field is required. Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in accounting or a related field is preferred.
- HR certification strongly preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, IPMA-CP).
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of principles and procedures for recruitment, selection, training, compensation, and benefits.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, HR modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
- Working knowledge of accounting terminology and procedures, financial reporting, budgeting, and audits.
- Mathematical skills and proficiency in basic computer systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Skills in technical communication and analysis of technical data.
