About the role
This is a limited‑term regular full‑time position; successful candidates can be employed up to two years, with the possibility of one additional year based on organizational needs. The Health Physics Equipment Technician I role is central to ensuring the safe and effective operation of health physics instrumentation. The position involves performing precise calibration, functional testing, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on a diverse range of health physics equipment to guarantee accuracy and reliability, maintaining calibration records, contributing to the development of new calibration methods, and assisting with the evaluation and recommendation of new health physics equipment to enhance department capabilities. The primary work location is at the Nevada National Security Site, located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the calibration, functional testing, troubleshooting, and repair of health physics and radiation detection instrumentation.
- Assists in conducting routine performance checks using approved calibration sources and test equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Assists in the preparation and maintenance of detailed calibration records, test data, and maintenance logs.
- Assists engineers and health physicists in gathering data to evaluate instrumentation performance and define technical requirements.
