About the role

This professional part-time position will co-coordinate the parent education program in Arlington County. Employee will utilize strong organizational and communication skills, apply knowledge of human/child growth and development, and program development to coordinate County parent education programs.

Responsibilities

  • Developing linkages with schools, training private providers, parents, and citizen groups
  • Identifying trends in the parenting field and ensuring that County programs are meeting the needs of the community
  • Developing assessment tools
  • Responding to telephone requests for information
  • Screnning and enrolling class participants
  • Cooking outreach to participants to ensure attendance, including arrangements for transportation if needed
  • Cooking follow-up services to participants including linkages to community agencies
  • Evaluating parenting curriculum to ensure that it is responsive to clients served
  • Arranging and coordinating child care program for participants’ children while participants attend classes
  • Arranging and coordinating parenting classes in Spanish and English
  • Initiating contracts for class trainers and child care providers and monitoring their performance
  • Creating and submitting various reports evaluating parenting classes and parent education activities in the County
  • Monitoring program budget and expenditures
  • Researching and developing funding sources
  • Working with internal program managers to implement a comprehensive County-wide parent education program
  • Publishing a quarterly newsletter

Requirements

Minimum Requirements: Oral proficiency in Spanish and English plus a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Social Work, Counseling, Child Psychology, Education or a related field and two years’ experience in program development, administration and/or management in a social services field.

Qualifications

Additional qualifying related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Skills

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Experience developing, monitoring or evaluating parent education programs
  • Experience writing grant applications and grant reports
  • Proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management software

Schedule

20 hours per week. Hours can be flexible with schedule to be determined at time of hire. Generally work will be within the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but some evening work to attend meetings or monitor classes will be required.
