Housing Specialist

The Housing Specialist for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program reports directly to the Team Leader when applicable or otherwise the SSVF Program Coordinator and provides housing services in order to reintegrate homeless and at-risk veterans and their families by connecting them to housing and comprehensive support services that will lead them to reaching their highest level of independence. The main function of these programs is to assist homeless and at-risk veterans and their families to obtain and maintain housing. FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Responsibilities Conduct thorough and constant housing assessment of clients’ changing needs by tracking and reporting their progress in accordance with funding requirementsMaintain participant confidentiality at all timesObtain all mandatory housing supporting documentation for case fileConduct rent reasonable testing in accordance with SSVF requirements and ensure documentation is maintainedAssist in distribution of temporary financial assistance paymentsComplete accurate and timely data entry into the HMIS systemCoordinate care with SSVF case managers, VA personnel and others on behalf of participant’s holistic wellbeingBuild and maintain effective and professional working relationships with participants and community agenciesDevelop and maintain collaborations with landlords and property managersRecruit property owners to collaborate in the placements of participants with high housing barriersTransport clients appropriately to resources they require in the community. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Requirements Bachelor’s degree in social services field or a related field requiredA minimum of 2 years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirementsExperience working with homeless and/or veterans preferredStrong oral, written and communication skills Strong organizational skills Ability to work within a team Computer proficient in Microsoft Office and InternetValid driver’s license required. Must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course
