MDHA serves Nashville and Davidson County. The mission of MDHA is to create quality affordable housing opportunities, support neighborhoods, strengthen communities, and help build a greater Nashville. MDHA employs over 300 staff members, has a budget of $215 million, and houses approximately 30,000 people, primarily through nearly 8,000 Section 8 Vouchers and over 6,800 apartments, which are mainly Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) units, at 39 properties. MDHA is a housing authority, a community development agency, and a redevelopment agency.
About the role
Under the direction of the Director of Compliance and Risk Management, the Housing Risk & Insurance Analyst supports MDHA’s enterprise risk management program by coordinating insurance claims, analyzing loss trends, and advancing housing risk mitigation strategies across the agency’s affordable housing portfolio. The analyst serves as a primary resource for insurance and risk analytics, synthesizing incident data, benchmarking industry practices, and preparing reports and dashboards that inform leadership decisions and strengthen organizational resilience.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage insurance claims, including property, liability, and workers’ compensation, ensuring timely and accurate processing and resolution.
- Analyze loss trends and incident data to identify patterns, root causes, and areas of risk exposure within MDHA’s housing portfolio.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to reduce financial and operational vulnerabilities across affordable housing properties.
- Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership, highlighting key risk metrics, trends, and recommendations for improvement.
- Benchmark industry best practices in housing risk management and insurance, incorporating relevant insights into MDHA’s risk framework.
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., property management, legal, finance) and external partners (e.g., insurers, brokers, consultants) to enhance risk management processes.
- Support compliance with insurance policy requirements, regulatory standards, and agency risk management protocols.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of risk management policies, procedures, and training materials for staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in risk management, insurance analysis, or a related field, preferably within affordable housing, public sector, or real estate.
- Knowledge of insurance principles, including property, liability, and workers’ compensation coverages.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau) to synthesize and visualize risk-related data.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports and presentations for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
Pay
$74,557 - $85,081
