Housing Facilities Maintenance Mechanic
About the role
The Housing Facilities Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the full range of journey-level hardscape work and general facility work within University Housing. This includes operating construction and related equipment, reading and interpreting blueprints, and providing instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
Responsibilities
- Operate construction and related equipment
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications
- Estimate cost, time, and materials of maintenance, repair, and renovation work
- Maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems
- Prepare standard reports
- Provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants
- Analyze and respond to emergency situations
- Perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in areas of construction/maintenance
- Four or more years journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of concrete/hardscape systems
- Completion of an apprenticeship program or experience equivalent leading to a journey-level concrete/hardscape tradesman
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems
- Knowledge of ADA access requirements
Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and tools used in one skilled trade area
- Working knowledge of materials, methods, equipment and tools in related trade areas pertaining to facilities, systems, construction and renovations
- Working knowledge of computerized maintenance and building automation systems
- Working knowledge of applicable building and safety codes and regulations related to facilities, systems and renovations

- Strong skills in other applicable trades
- Use considerable judgment and discretion in performing duties
- Read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications
- Make rough sketches
- Prepare standard reports
- Provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants
- Respond to emergency situations
- Read and write at a level appropriate to the position
- Perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position

Pay
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,355 per month (Step 1) - $5,796 per month (Step 5)
Schedule
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 12:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Facilities Management is the steward for the University buildings, infrastructure, grounds and landscape. They perform maintenance and renovation to facilities; plan and manage new building construction; support the Redefine the Possible initiative through their commitment to building a welcoming campus and by creating a dynamic physical environment for students, faculty, staff, and the community.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to safely move a minimum of 50 pounds, in a variety of work environments (i.e. confined spaces, around mechanical devices etc.)
