Housing Counselor - Bilingual

About the role

The Housing Counselor will provide professional face-to-face housing counseling to prospective and existing low-to-moderate income Philadelphia families and individuals in Pre-Purchase, Rental, Mortgage delinquency, and post-Purchase in accordance with HUD/National Industry Standards guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and update client files on a regular basis.
  • Prepare action plans and follow up with clients in a timely manner.
  • Participate in weekly DHCD Diversion Court sessions with clients.
  • Prepare HEMAP and other default services applications.
  • Interact with Mortgage Servicers, Realtors, Landlords, and other relevant parties to secure the best mortgage products and resources for home buyers, find rental properties, and preserve homeownership for existing homeowners at risk of foreclosure.
  • Perform administrative tasks and maintain complete, accurate files and records of client information in the Database RX office.
  • Assist the Housing Director with the preparation of reports.
  • Work off-site or off-hours occasionally as needed.
  • Travel locally and outside the state for trainings or meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience providing housing counseling.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • HUD and DHCD Diversion Court certified preferred or must be able to pass the exam within three months of hiring.
  • Must pass the mandatory HUD housing counseling exam within 90 days of hiring.
  • Sign-on bonus if HUD certified.
  • Familiarity with social service networks in Philadelphia.
  • Ability to maintain a caseload of clients, including prompt and accurate maintenance of client files with attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Experience with data client systems (Counselor Max and RX experience preferred).
  • Strong willingness to learn.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, customer service, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
