Housing Assistant
King County Housing Authority (KCHA) is seeking a Housing Assistant for the Housing Choice Voucher Department. The role supports delivery of critical services that help individuals and families access and maintain affordable housing, serving as a primary point of contact for clients, landlords, and community partners.
Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Provide clear, accurate information about policies and procedures via phone, email, and in‑person; operate a multi‑line switchboard; greet clients; answer inquiries; stock flyers; copy and file documents.
- Housing Program Support: Process intake and annual re‑certification files; generate and mail review letters and packets; determine required verifications based on family composition, employment, and income; contact third parties for verification; scan and index documentation into electronic records; report suspected program violations to assigned staff.
- General Office & Clerical Support: Use standard office equipment to prepare copies and mailings; maintain electronic and paper records; track work using office systems; create letters and documents in housing computer systems; perform data entry; log and return phone messages; scan and index documents.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimal experience (less than 1 year) in administrative support with some customer service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Consent to and successful completion of required assessments and a criminal background check.
Skills and Abilities
- Accurate record‑keeping (manual and electronic) and high‑detail data entry.
- Proven ability to deliver customer service over the phone, via email, and in person.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet) and ability to learn Adobe Acrobat, DocuSign, and agency software (e.g., Yardi, OnBase).
- Strong verbal and written communication; active listening.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Excellent organizational skills, multitasking, and prioritization.
- Team collaboration in a busy office environment.
- Sound judgment, quick decision‑making, and willingness to learn new procedures.
- Capacity to manage stress and work under pressure.
Pay
Starting salary is $32.99 per hour, dependent on qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $32.99 – $42.87 hourly.

Work Environment & Schedule
This role offers a hybrid work schedule in line with KCHA’s flexible work arrangements, with periodic review of remote work based on business needs. Employees must be able to report to the Central Office in Tukwila. The office environment is moderately noisy (business office/light traffic).
Physical Requirements
The position frequently requires exertion of up to 10 lb (occasionally up to 25 lb), frequent sitting, speaking, hearing, and hand use, repetitive motions, and occasional standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and pushing/pulling. Standard vision and vocal communication are required, as is the ability to prepare and analyze written or computer data.
