Housing Advocate (Part-time)

Position Summary

The Salvation Army St. Cloud Corps provides holistic, person-centered services including worship services, pastoral care, shelter, emergency assistance, food programs, and connections to community resources. The Housing Advocate supports shelter participants by providing direct support, responding to needs and crises, assisting with shelter operations, and connecting participants to resources.

Essential Functions

  • Participant Support and Engagement (40%): Build positive relationships by providing compassionate support, assisting with shelter expectations, resolving concerns, and promoting skills for successful stays.

  • Shelter Operations, Safety, and Participant Services (40%): Monitor daily activities, enforce policies, respond to emergencies, conduct facility rounds, assist with building access, support meal service, and maintain common areas.

  • Documentation and Administrative Support (10%): Complete required documentation, perform administrative tasks, and ensure accurate recordkeeping.

  • Resource Information and Referrals (10%): Provide information about shelter services and connect participants to community resources.

Pay and Schedule

$14.79 to $17.50 per hour, 24 hours a week

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • One year of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, behavioral health concerns, or other vulnerable populations preferred.

  • Experience in shelter services, human services, customer service, residential programs, or a related setting preferred.

Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and sound judgment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office, shelter, and participant-facing work environments.

  • Moderate physical activity required, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.

  • Schedule includes daytime, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.
