About the role
This position performs duties providing for the care, supervision and instruction of a unit of residential students at the Kentucky School for the Deaf.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise students in dormitory program to maintain accountability for student's whereabouts, safety and welfare
- Provide care, active engagement and supervision and instruction of a unit of residential students at the Kentucky School for the Deaf
- Supervise students in dormitory setting
- Interpret, explain and enforce school policies and regulations and dorm guidelines or rules
- Plan and implement educational programs to reinforce life skills and ASL/English mastery striving to provide the best language accessible learning environment
- Improve student literacy by collecting data, materials and ideas for dorm activities, create word walls, gather photos for web page, bulletin boards, craft projects, etc.
- Inspect and maintain dorm appearance with emphasis on safety and an environment conducive to student development
- Maintain cleanliness of rooms, clothing, etc.
- Ensure students complete cleaning duties such as making beds, cleaning trash cans, doing laundry, etc.
- Provide necessary care for sick students
- Decorate seasonally, providing homelike touches
- Monitor and guide students in appropriate table manners and eating habits
- Provide supervision to each dorm floor to ensure time schedule
- Guide students in appropriate personal hygiene to include cleanliness, hair care and personal appearance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- One year of experience working with individuals in an instructional or institutional setting
- College may substitute for the work experience on a year-for-year basis
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- American Sign Language (ASL) skills
Pay
- $33,354.24 Annually
- Shift Premium for Third shift – 15%
