We’re searching for a Housekeeping Worker to join the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission of maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in SECL facilities.
About the role
You’ll join the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team, a department centered on uplifting the student experience by cultivating affirming environments, promoting holistic well-being, and providing exceptional services, programs, and facilities. This is a regular, full-time, 100% staff appointment reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and replenish supplies in assigned areas.
- Report any facility repairs or needs to management.
- Operate powered and manual cleaning equipment.
- Mix chemicals with proper proportions from established guidelines.
- Care for and handle Custodial Operations supplies, equipment, and assigned keys.
- Maintain established standards of cleanliness and sanitation in student lounges, offices, lobbies, stairs, restrooms, showers, windows, and other assigned venues.
- Perform floor maintenance, dusting, gathering and removing trash.
- Remove snow and ice from entranceways and sidewalks.
- Rake leaves and gather trash from areas near buildings.
- Occasionally support Event Operations Staff in preparing events scheduled in reservable spaces in SECL facilities.
Requirements
- Excellent customer service and communication skills for interaction with employees, students, and visitors at a large university campus facility.
- Knowledge of commercial/industrial cleaning methods.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Experience safely mixing chemicals with proper proportions from established guidelines.
- Experience operating manual and electrically powered cleaning equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in cleaning institutional or commercial areas.

Pay
Starting at $33,280 annually.
Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM.
- Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
