Housekeeping Worker

We’re searching for a Housekeeping Worker to join the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission of maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in SECL facilities.

About the role

You’ll join the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team, a department centered on uplifting the student experience by cultivating affirming environments, promoting holistic well-being, and providing exceptional services, programs, and facilities. You’ll report to the Housekeeping Supervisor. This is a regular, full-time, 100% staff appointment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and replenish supplies in assigned areas.
• Report any facility repairs or needs to management.
• Operate powered and manual cleaning equipment.
• Mix chemicals with proper proportions from established guidelines.
• Care for and handle Custodial Operations supplies, equipment, and assigned keys.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in student lounges, offices, lobbies, stairs, restrooms, showers, windows, and other assigned venues.
• Perform floor maintenance, dusting, gathering and removing trash.
• Remove snow and ice from entranceways and sidewalks, rake leaves, and gather trash from areas near buildings.
• Occasionally support Event Operations Staff in preparing events scheduled in reservable spaces in SECL facilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Excellent customer service and communication skills for interaction with employees, students, and visitors at a large university campus facility.
• Knowledge of commercial/industrial cleaning methods.
• Ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Experience safely mixing chemicals with proper proportions from established guidelines.
• Experience operating manual and electrically powered cleaning equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in cleaning institutional or commercial areas.

Pay

Base compensation starting at $33,280. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.

Schedule

• Full-time, 40 hours per week.
• Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
