The Housekeeping Supervisor directs and administers all housekeeping operations—including the Laundry Department and collaboration with the maintenance team—to ensure cleanliness, product quality, outstanding guest service, and financial profitability.
Responsibilities
- Ensure and maintain cleanliness, service, and product‑quality standards for guest rooms, public spaces, offices, and banquet/meeting/conference rooms in accordance with local and company health, sanitation, and safety standards.
- Lead, direct, and administer all housekeeping operations, including system use, budgeting and forecasting, inventory control, department management, policy and procedure implementation, and meeting participation and facilitation.
- Monitor and develop team‑member performance through supervision, professional development, scheduling, coaching, counseling, performance evaluation, and recognition/rewards.
- Recruit, interview, and train housekeeping team members.
- Ensure proper usage, training, and labeling of chemicals and cleaning supplies in compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations.
- Create and post weekly schedules for housekeeping and laundry team members.
- Physically inspect rooms prepared by room attendants to confirm readiness for guest check‑in and update the system accordingly.
- Clean and prepare rooms during high occupancy periods or when team members are absent, as needed.
- Collaborate closely with the front office team to ensure guest‑room satisfaction.
- Oversee laundry operations and work with maintenance to maintain laundry‑equipment upkeep.
- Order and properly store housekeeping and laundry supply inventory.
- Report, log, and complete required documentation for all lost‑and‑found items.
- Secure all storage areas, ensure housekeeping sheets and the executive housekeeper sheet are turned in to the front desk before leaving.
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of public areas throughout the hotel.
- Ensure overall excellence in hotel and guest‑room cleanliness.
Qualifications
- Dependable and productive work ethic.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
- Minimum six (6) months of related experience or training preferred.
- Ability to effectively lead a team of 15 or more employees.
Skills
- Prior experience in a supervisory or managerial role; hotel experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to apply basic principles and techniques of supervision.
- Capability to plan and organize the activities of others.
- Skill in gaining acceptance for ideas and guiding individuals or groups to accomplish tasks.

Physical Demands
The role requires standing and walking for long periods, repetitive use of arms, hands, and legs, handling and feeling objects, tools, or controls, reaching with hands and arms, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Employees may need to climb or balance, talk and hear, and push carts weighing up to 60 lb. Regular lifting/moving of up to 10 lb, frequent lifting/moving of up to 25 lb, and occasional lifting/moving of up to 50 lb are required. Good close, distance, and color vision are essential. The work environment can be high‑stress and mentally demanding.
