About the Role
Performs day-to-day activities of the housekeeping and maintenance department in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility. Responsible for facility maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of general housekeeping and cleaning duties in various areas to maintain the center in a sanitary, safe, attractive, and orderly condition.
- Receives assignments from supervisor and follows cleaning schedule to clean offices, restrooms (including handicap and visitor restrooms), activity room, kitchen restroom, service entrance, therapy room, entrances, exits, utility areas, closets, lounges, lobbies, and halls.
- Performs emergency housekeeping tasks as required.
- Checks and replaces light bulbs, cleans lint from dryers, vents, and registers in resident rooms and other areas.
- Keeps grounds cleared of debris; sweeps front entrance and patio areas; cleans ashtrays; ensures outside furniture is clean and usable; hoses out garbage cans; washes windows and screens outside the building as assigned.
- Cleans, dusts, washes, and disinfects all fixtures, floors, walls, doors, and ceilings as required.
- Scours and polishes water fountains, sinks, mirrors, glass panels, brass, and furnishings; changes slipcovers and arranges furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion.
- Cleans ledges, shelves, vents, windows, and window sills; removes and re-hangs curtains, drapes, and dividers for cleaning when needed; replenishes soap and towels.
- Works jointly with maintenance department personnel to service floors, resident rooms, baths, lounges, nurse’s stations, and offices; cleans furnishings and horizontal surfaces to remove dust and dirt.
- Collaborates with residents, nurses, physicians, department leaders, and other staff regarding environmental services requests, infection prevention, and service resolution opportunities.
- Provides timely follow-up for information to requesting departments and consults with management on best practices.
- Performs housekeeping, cleaning, and maintenance tasks as defined in the environmental program.
- Obtains list of rooms and areas to be cleaned immediately and prepares rooms for new occupants following prospective admissions or discharges.
- Cleans floors, including sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, and disinfecting; ensures caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.
- Ensures work areas are clean and equipment, tools, and supplies are properly stored at all times, including before breaks, meal times, and end of the workday.
- Cleans carpets using appropriate machines and chemicals; performs floor care on tile floors, including stripping and waxing.
- Monitors and replenishes cleaning products; inventories stock to ensure adequate supplies; uses industrial cleaning equipment and products properly without waste.
- Returns unused supplies to proper areas; disposes of soiled materials and trash in designated areas; cleans carts and equipment.
- Performs terminal cleaning duties in resident rooms after discharge or transfer and prepares rooms for new occupants.
- Performs cleaning duties in isolation units according to established procedures when a resident is transferred.
- Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalency preferred.
- One year’s work experience in a commercial establishment with knowledge of laundry and housekeeping procedures.
