About the Role
Perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and facility policies as directed by the Housekeeping Supervisor.
Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of sixteen (16) years of age.
- Able to read, write, and speak English in an understandable manner.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies, and the general public.
- Ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
Physical Requirements
- Able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Possess sight and hearing senses (or use prosthetics) to function adequately for the requirements of this position.
- Able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with residents, family members, visitors, personnel, and support agencies.
- Good general health and emotional stability.
- Able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people.
- May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the day.
- Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Responsibilities
- Follow established departmental policies and procedures, including appropriate dress code.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and improving services.
- Follow and complete cleaning schedules daily as assigned.
- Maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
- Participate in in-service education programs.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining an effective orientation program for new employees.
- Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
- Maintain an adequate number of supplies on the housekeeping cart for routine cleaning.
- Place proper MSDS labels on all chemicals and replace labels when soiled or worn.
- Use only the correct supplies and in proper dilution ratios.
- Keep all restricted areas locked.
- Check all windows, furniture, fixtures, etc., for correct operation and complete maintenance repair slips for the supervisor.
- Obey all safety rules.
- Practice good infection control and follow universal precautions procedures.
- Replace and replenish supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, etc.
- Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor.
- Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s Quality Assurance program for the housekeeping department.
- Attend staff meetings as directed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
