About the role
The Housekeeper ensures the safety, health, and morale of patients, visitors, and employees by maintaining a clean, attractive, and safe environment that supports patient recovery. This position integrates company values into daily practice.
Responsibilities
- Cleans all patient rooms and ancillary areas in assigned area using Hospital-approved processes and procedures.
- Cleans patient rooms immediately upon patient discharge.
- Vacuums and cleans upholstered furniture and carpeted areas.
- Replaces soiled window draperies, moves furniture, and other equipment as directed.
- Spot cleans and washes walls, light fixtures, vents, and other apertures.
- Cleans window frames, door frames, televisions, and performs high dusting using a ladder when necessary.
- Collects soiled linen from patient areas and distributes clean linen and hospital gowns.
- Maintains floors by stripping, waxing, and buffing as needed.
- Collects waste from all hospital areas, sanitizes garbage cans, and properly disposes of waste and bio-waste.
- Adheres to Hospital policies on hazardous materials and exposure to body substances, using required protective equipment.
- Takes daily inventory of supplies, cleans and inspects equipment, and notifies administration of needed repairs.
- May work during inclement weather or staffing emergencies.
- Ensures a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff by assessing risks and implementing precautions.
- Complies with safety and Infection Prevention standards.
- Maintains regular attendance and completes required trainings.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support organizational effectiveness.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of experience in a hospital or skilled nursing facility preferred.
- Knowledge of healthcare environmental services procedures.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection prevention standards.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to collaborate professionally with others at all organizational levels.
Physical Requirements
- Significant standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods.
- Lifting/exerting up to 50 lbs.
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
- Close vision with the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear overhead pages.
Pre-employment screenings include a background check and UDS with THC.
