Housekeeping Aid (Environmental Services Technician)
The Housekeeping Aid performs a full range of janitorial and custodial tasks in both patient and non-patient care areas at the John J. Pershing VAMC in Poplar Bluff, MO.
Responsibilities
- Executes floor maintenance and wall washing
- Cleans doors, doorframes, baseboard corners and edges, and stairwells
- Sweeps, dust mops, damp and wet mops, scrubs, strips, refinishes, buffs, vacuums, extracts carpets and runners, spot cleans areas, and high and low dusts
- Utilizes pressure washers and heavy industrial equipment, adjusts, cleans, and performs minor maintenance on these tools, and changes attachments
- Empties trash and wastebaskets, replaces liners, transports general refuse, regulated medical waste, and recycling to central collection areas
- Cleans restrooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms, ensuring they meet acceptable standards (cleans, disinfects, deodorizes lavatories, showers, bathtubs, urinals, and toilet bowls; cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains; washes and polishes light and toilet fixtures)
- Works multiple shifts including days, evenings, overnight, and weekends

Physical Requirements
The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. It requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment weighing over 50 pounds. Tasks necessitate considerable dexterity, hand-foot-eye coordination, and concentration, along with visual acuity to see dirt, dust, and debris.
