About the role
The Housekeeper for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) at the Bemidji Veterans Home (MVH-Bemidji) is responsible for performing housekeeping and maintenance activities to ensure a clean, comfortable, healthy, and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents, and equipment for different types of flooring.
- Operate and use hand tools and equipment effectively, including ladders and scaffolding.
- Handle and apply chemical cleaning agents safely and dispose of them properly.
- Perform laundry functions and function in adverse weather conditions.
- Make minor mechanical repairs to maintenance equipment and operate simple maintenance equipment.
- Follow instructions, read and understand operational manuals, and keep simple records.
Requirements
- Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering and methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance.
- Ability to use manual labor to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in housekeeping or maintenance.
- Experience with chemical cleaning agents and basic mechanical repairs.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
- Good communication skills.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
