About the role
The Housekeeper is responsible for performing general housekeeping duties to ensure all areas are kept clean and sanitary in accordance with health system standards, federal, state, and local regulations. Reports to department leadership.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and corridors daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner.
- Use proper cleaning techniques and procedures to prevent the spread of infections and disease.
- Display knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their use.
- Handle waste disposal from the department and transport to the appropriate disposal area.
- Replenish paper supplies and hand soap in bathrooms.
- Perform routine and soiled spot cleaning on carpeted flooring.
- Clean interior and/or exterior windows and mini blinds as assigned and necessary.
- Perform continuous cleanup of work areas, equipment, and workstations.
- Maintain an adequate amount of cleaning supplies and paper products in housekeeping closets and on carts; order supplies as needed.
- Notify maintenance and/or supervisor of any work requisitions needed.
- Maintain a courteous, professional relationship with all organizational staff, patients, families, and guests.
- Attend meetings and training in-services as required.
- Responsible for completing and maintaining accurate checklists and other paperwork requirements.
- Ensure adherence to company policy, standards of operation, safety and sanitation guidelines, and the employee handbook.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training, and/or certifications is required.
- Experience in operating commercial equipment required.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Six months of housekeeping experience preferred.
- Health care work experience preferred.
Skills
- Knowledge of proper handling of hazardous materials and cleaning chemicals.
- Excellent time management skills to complete work in a timely manner; able to shift priorities, work independently, and work in a team setting.
- Ability to problem solve in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively within role, department, and organization.

- Ability to operate work equipment.
Increased Security Clearance Required for Job Roles at Children's Pavilion or in any licensed DBHDS program: FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and Child Protective Services Registry Search.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and the like, with the exception of visits to the computer room.
