Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, common areas, offices, hallways, treatment spaces, and other assigned areas.
- Perform routine cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, and surface cleaning.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces according to established infection-control procedures.
- Make beds and assist with changing linens as assigned.
- Collect, transport, wash, dry, fold, and distribute linens and laundry as needed.
- Empty trash and properly dispose of waste according to facility procedures.
- Maintain appropriate supplies in patient rooms, bathrooms, and common areas.
- Monitor housekeeping supplies and notify leadership when inventory is low.
- Safely use and store cleaning products, chemicals, equipment, and supplies.
- Follow all Safety Data Sheet (SDS), infection-control, and hazardous-material handling requirements.
- Identify and immediately report spills, damaged equipment, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or potentially unsafe conditions.
- Follow appropriate procedures when cleaning areas that may contain bodily fluids or other potentially infectious materials.
- Assist with room preparation following patient discharge and prior to new admissions.
- Maintain housekeeping carts, storage areas, and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
- Respect patient privacy, dignity, and personal belongings while working in patient areas.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patients and any information observed or overheard while working within the facility.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, visitors, and team members.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with patients at all times.
- Follow facility safety, infection-prevention, emergency, and security procedures.
- Participate in required orientation, safety training, infection-control training, and other assigned education.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support facility operations and patient care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous housekeeping, environmental services, janitorial, hospitality, healthcare, or residential-facility experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a healthcare, behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, hospital, or residential environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning, sanitation, and infection-control practices preferred.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment, disinfectants, and other housekeeping products.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Dependable attendance and ability to work assigned shifts, including weekends or holidays as needed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings, orientation, safety training, and competency requirements.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
This position works in a residential behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment facility. The Position May Require:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, kneeling, and stooping.
- Pushing and pulling housekeeping carts and equipment.
- Regular lifting and carrying of supplies, linens, trash, and equipment.
- Ability to lift up to approximately 30 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance when appropriate.
- Frequent use of cleaning products and disinfectants.
- Wearing required personal protective equipment.
- Exposure to potentially infectious materials or bodily fluids requiring adherence to infection-control precautions.
- Working around patients who may be experiencing emotional distress, behavioral health symptoms, or challenges associated with early recovery.
- Working weekends, holidays, or varying schedules based on facility needs.
