Household Science & Hands-On Experiments Enrichment Instructor
Location: On‑site at partner schools or community locations (varies by assignment)
About the role
Concorde Education partners with schools and community organizations to provide engaging enrichment programs that inspire curiosity, creativity, confidence, and lifelong learning. We are seeking enthusiastic professionals with backgrounds in science, STEM, education, engineering, laboratory sciences, environmental science, or other related fields who are interested in providing instructional services for K–12 hands-on science enrichment programs. Household Science programs introduce students to scientific concepts through fun, interactive experiments and activities using familiar, everyday materials. These programs are designed to make science approachable and exciting while encouraging students to experiment, ask questions, make predictions, and discover how science connects to the world around them. This posting is intended to identify qualified professionals who may be considered for future independent contractor instructional assignments as opportunities become available.
Responsibilities
- Lead hands‑on experiments and activities using everyday materials (e.g., chemical reactions, states of matter, density, buoyancy, surface tension, acids/bases/pH, electricity/magnetism, light/sound/energy, forces/motion/simple machines, weather/environmental science, slime/polymers/material science, engineering/building challenges, scientific observation/experimentation, science behind common household objects).
- Ensure activities are age‑appropriate, engaging, and conducted with appropriate attention to classroom and student safety.
- Explain the science behind experiments rather than simply demonstrating them.
- Encourage students to ask questions, make predictions, and explore ideas.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Communicate professionally with students, school personnel, and Concorde Education.
- Arrive prepared and reliably fulfill accepted instructional assignments.
Requirements
- Background in science, STEM, education, engineering, laboratory sciences, environmental science, or related fields.
- Experience as a science teacher/educator, STEM instructor, biology/chemistry/physics/environmental science professional, engineering/technology professional, laboratory/research background, science museum or educational‑program staff, after‑school or summer‑camp STEM instructor, college student/graduate studying science, engineering, education, or related fields, or professional with experience leading hands‑on science activities for children.
- Prior K–12 teaching experience is helpful but not required for every assignment.
Skills
- Ability to make scientific concepts fun, understandable, and engaging for K–12 students.
- Strong organizational skills for leading hands‑on experiments.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety and inclusive practices.
- Reliability and preparedness for instructional assignments.
Pay
Starting at $50+ per instructional hour, with rates varying based on the assignment, instructor qualifications, experience, location, scheduling needs, and other program‑related factors.
Schedule
Typically 1–4 instructional hours per week, primarily after school. Program length is approximately 8–10 weeks per assignment. Start dates are rolling based on school partner schedules.
Instructional opportunities are offered on an independent contractor basis and vary based on partner‑school needs. Submitting an application does not guarantee an assignment. Qualified applicants may be contacted when an opportunity becomes available that aligns with their background, location, availability, and the specific requirements of the program. Assignment details, including schedule, location, instructional expectations, materials, and compensation, are provided for review before an instructor accepts an opportunity.
